Historical Sketches + John Snowden Kellison
I was able to find that the book "Historical Sketches of Pocahontas County" by William T. Price (originally published in 1901) has been reprinted in 2002, and was able to purchase a copy (previously I only had some copies of articles in the book).
This book is an invaluable resource for the West Virginia Beards as it traces many of the families (including a number of the Beards) who lived in Pocahontas County in the late 1700's and 1800's. Many of these sketches are first hand, or rememberences of family members living at that time. A number relate the experiences with living with the Native Americans in the area at the time.
As part of reviewing the information in that book I was pleased to find reference to the Kinnisons. Nancy Grace Kinnison (wife of Josiah Paul Beard) was my great grandmother, and pictures of her from the 1960's (and a picture of her as a young girl which I have not seen yet) are available. She suffered a lingering illness in her old age. A surprise while researching this tree was the relationship of John Snowden Kellison, a football couch (and player in secret) for the Philadelphia Eagles; who was mentioned in my "legends" area; but with uncertain relationship to the Beard's. It turns out that John Snowden Kellision married Nancy Grace Kinnision Beard's neice (Clarice). So there was a non-blood relationship to the Beards; but he must have been close to my father (Julian Ralph Beard) as my mother remembers visiting him early in their marriage.
John Snowden Kellison played for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1920-1922. An interesting story about how John Kellision played "in secret" for the Eagles is described on the web page:

John Kellison was also the namesake for my brother, Paul Kellison Beard.
The other amazing thing is that there is online geanology for the Kinnisons dating back to the 1400's in England.
As a final note, my DNA testing has been received and is in progress, about 5 weeks to process and report results. A Beard family DNA project exists on the site:
