Cousins - In - Law
Fellow Genealogists come from the most unlikely of places and have intersections of interest which lead to rediscovery of history.
Nafhaniel Fergusen Graham is Patti's great grandfather:

When he was a boy, he was too small to fight with his brothers in the Civil War (for the Union, they lived in New York). But he ran away, and joined his brother's regiment at age 10 and became the drummer boy. He was wounded in the Civil War, and Patti's cousin David Mundy remembers his grandmother drawing her pinkie across her stomach to indicate where his wound was. He lived in New York City til about age 41, and then moved to Trinidad for the remaining 50 years of his life, passing away in 1936. He married a Portuguese woman, Elena Baptista, and hence my wife and children have mixed Portugeuse ancestry. I was contacted by a descendent of his sister, Lillian, who was researching Nathaniel. Although I had little information about him, I did have an old photograph taken in New York City about 1900. His parents had nine children, and they both died at an early age within two days of each other; he drowned in the Hudson river while swimming and she died a few days later of shock and premature birth.
This answers question of how Patti's grandmother ended up in Antigua, where her grandmother Mabel married a Moravian Missionary, and then later moved to Bethlehem, PA, settling there.
Capturing stories such as these on my "big web scrapbook" leads to interesting contacts with lots of stories and pictures. Dottie (Lillian's great grandaugther) passed along photographs and old records of his business in Trinidad. She was very pleased to get a photograph of Nathaniel (Uncle Nat) as she had never seen one.
Another family line to investigate soon is the Place family (my maternal grandfather)n in Rhode Island (Kingston, RI). This is only about 1 hour from my house, and will go down to explore this area where the Place family bought a farm in the 1600's before migrating to Pennsylvania. Who knows what awaits there..? Angeline .. I will give a full report.
On the Beard side, not much new to report. Progress has been slow since completing the Pauline Beard Cooney book. Looking for some other avenues to explore.... but with over 16,000 individuals in my databsae, something always turns up!
